Fico was a beloved math teacher at New Smyrna Beach High School, father of three and a role model in the NSB surf tribe. Frederick “Fico” Fernandez’s memorial service yesterday was a testament to his amazing life. Fico lost all he loved doing what he loved, surfing. Just a week before during a firing swell from Hurricane Irene on this very spot of salt and sand. It sucks to see the greats go to soon.
